The Bookworm That is Me

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” ~ Stephen King

Bookworm Finn

I was recently catching up on some of my favorite blogs the other day and when I was reading Strawberry Singh’s I came across her list of blog challenges. I will be picking and choosing some of her challenges to do in the future, though this post is in response to her The Book Meme.  I really enjoy reading so this was an easy one for me to start with.

  1. Are you a bookworm? – I am. When I get in a reading mood (which is pretty often) I am completely and totally, head in a book as much as I can bookworm.
  2. Which do you prefer: hardcover, paperback or electronic? – I prefer books to electronic definitely. And I suppose I would have to say prefer paperback to hardcover mostly because of portability and cost.
  3. Which book is your favorite? – I have too many favorites to list and I rarely read any book only one time.
  4. Which children’s book is your favorite? – Hmm… three stick out to me right at the moment – The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
  5. What’s the last book you’ve read? – City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
  6. Name your top five favorite writers: – In no particular order… Gena Showalter, Katie MacAlister, Nora Roberts, James Patterson and Stephen King.
  7. Name a book that had a strong impact on you: – If I Stay by Gayle Forman
  8. Favorite & least favorite book genres? – I would probably have to say mystery, romance, and paranormal are my top three go to types of books. As far as a least favorite type, I would say sci-fi, which is odd to me considering some of my favorite movies are sci-fi.
  9. Favorite & least favorite book-to-movie adaptions? – I think the Harry Potter series of movies did a very good job of covering the books and the Hunger Games trilogy has been really good so far. I am looking forward to the final movies in that series. Of course with any book to movie adaptation things get left out. As for worst, I really did not enjoy the movie version of The Golden Compass.
  10. Have you ever bought a book based on the cover alone? – No, I will usually read at least the summary of the book before I buy it. Though I have picked up a book based on the cover alone BEFORE I read the summary so maybe that’s the same thing?
  11. Where do you usually buy your books? – Online. Unfortunately the closest bookstore to where I live has a pretty limited selection and the nearest chain store is about 45 minutes away. Of course there’s Target, but they have a somewhat limited selection as well.
  12. Do you go to the library? – Not as much as I should to be honest. I have this thing about owning my books. Weird I know.
  13. How many books do you own? – Wow. Um, looking around my living room at the bookshelves and thinking of the ones in my room and in the hallway, I’d say maybe 200-300? I go through these like every other year or so and donate a bunch either to the library or pass them on to friends that enjoy reading too. Some I have held on to for more than half my life.
  14. If you were to write a book about Second Life, which topic would you focus on? – I think that a book about the sociology and community structure of an online community would be an interesting topic to write about. Or maybe one about online versus real life/in person behavior and how they can be similar and, of course, opposite.
